DEVOTIONAL: LIVING BY THE SPIRIT SERIES || SURRENDERING OUR LIFE TO GOD || SERIES 1

SERIES IN LIVING BY THE SPIRIT 1

SURRENDERING OUR LIFE TO GOD

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. ROMANS 12:1-2

Our body has most important organs for us to live mainly...BRAIN and HEART.

In Human Anatomy, BRAIN is arguably the most important organ in the human body. It controls and coordinates actions and reactions, allows us to think and feel, and enables us to have memories and feelings—all the things that make us human.

And also our HEART is the organ responsible for maintaining this vital circulation of blood. The heart has dual responsibilities of pumping oxygenated blood to the body and pumping oxygen-poor blood to the lungs for reoxygenation.

That is all about PHYSICAL LIFE. But our God who has COMMANDED us to offer and surrendered our life to him is Spirit, so we must live and walk in Spirit and in truth, that is our SPIRITUAL LIFE must be.

IN OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE THE MOST IMPORTANT TO BE AWARE IS OUR HEART.

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.  Who can understand it?10 “I the Lord search the heart    and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct,   according to what their deeds deserve.” Jeremiah 17:9-10

READING: Genesis 4:1-7

Cain and Abel Story

We can see there are two types of hearts here.

1)     CAIN’S HEART- brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord.

2)     ABEL’S HEART- offered fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock.

Why does the Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor? Because he followed God in the way the book of law has commanded them how to offer to God. Abel’s heart is pure and with obedience. He trusted God over his flocks as he offered the best (fat portions from first born) while his brother Cain just brought no specific but some fruits which is according to his own will. God told him if he did what is right with the Lord of course it will be accepted and had looked with favor for him. Even he was warned to rule over of what is inside his heart(sin) by doing what is right to God. And it was revealed after it happened, he got angry and downcast until his emotions consumed him, he killed his own brother Abel.

Therefore we must be very careful of what kind of heart we have right now to have favor from the eyes of our All-knowing God. The Lord does not desire anything from us like in old testament (burnt and sacrificial sin offerings) but he is looking of what kind of heart we have (Psalm 40:6-8).

To surrender our life to God we need to open our heart for Jesus Christ.

H- Humble ourselves before the Lord-Psalm 25:8-9

E- Evaluate our heart always- Jeremiah 17:9-10

A- Abstain from the desire of the flesh- Galatians 5:7

R-Renew by the Spirit of God- John 4:24

T-Trust God even when it hurt- Romans 12:2

MEMORY VERSE:

If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” Genesis 4:7

DEVOTIONAL: SALVATION MEANING AND ITS IMPORTANCE

Salvation (also called deliverance or redemption) is the saving of human beings from sin and its consequences—which include death and separation from God—by Christ's death and resurrection, and everyone who accept this truth will be restored through faith and have eternal life. Note, that the word death here is not about a physical death but a spiritual death. So, this spiritual death and separation from God start from the time when humans disobeyed God which is written in the book of Genesis 3 ( please read the full chapter ) . Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. And because God so love the world He made a way in which He sent his one and only son Jesus Christ to deliver and redeem us from being perished because of our transgressions and sin. John 3:16 , which says, "For God so loved the world that he g...

DEVOTIONAL: IMPORTANCE OF REPENTANCE

Repentance is important because it allows for forgiveness, spiritual growth, and a renewed relationship with our Heavenly Father. It is an act of turning away from sin and walk toward a path of a healthy spiritual life  which leads to freedom from guilt, healing, and a fresh start. It is often seen as a prerequisite for spiritual progress and salvation. It is also an  act of feeling remorse for all the past wrongdoing. Knowing also that in every mistake that we are going to commit in this present and in the future has a consequences(including the past). So it is called to repent and not to repeat. We have to choose wisely our path by changing our mindsets and behaviour by walking towards a better way of living   fixing our eyes to Jesus.   This involves acknowledging one's actions base not by human judgement but by what Christ Jesus teaching, and committing to a change in attitude and actions in the name of Christ Jesus. A key verse on repentance is 1 John 1...
